The parade will then turn left and proceed to Church Street\, turn left\, and then proceed to the Fairgrounds. To ensure the safety of the firefighters and other participants in the parade\, parking will be prohibited on Kinderhook Street and Woodbridge Avenue between the hours of 6:30am and 1:00pm.

DESCRIPTION:An immersive\, multi-media performance installation of aerial acrobatics\, photography\, and projected video\, and electronic music. \nFresh from the Venice Biennale 2023 and Tate Modern\, ANIMA alters our perspectives on the “sensation of time” and the pace and effects of climate change. \nAn immersive multidisciplinary installation by French visual artist/photographer Noémie Goudal\, theater director Maëlle Poésy\, circus artist Chloé Moglia\, and composer Chloé Thévenin\, ANIMA sits at the crossroads of visual\, photographic\, musical\, video\, and scenic arts. The work is grounded in the artists’ interest in recent discoveries in paleoclimatology\, the study of ancient climate\, whereby researchers are able to make projections about the future based on the metamorphoses and mutations that occurred in the distant past.  \nThese extreme mutations of terrestrial topography are imperceptible to the human gaze. Through the medium of images of palm trees\, rocks\, caves\, and water in continual metamorphosis projected onto a triptych of giant screens\, Goudal and Poésy confront the viewer with an experience of human impermanence. Thevenin’s music\, a mix of electronics and recordings of sounds of flowing water\, winds\, and wildlife coalesces with the images to create a sense of the fragility of landscapes\, the power of the elements\, and the vertiginous nature of time.

The performance is free\, to encourage broad-based community attendance.  \nAmoukanama (“What doesn’t break persists” in the Susu language of Guinea\, Mali\, and Sierra Leone) wowed audiences at America’s Got Talent in 2022 and continues to delight crowds at home and on tour throughout Europe.

DESCRIPTION:“Thanks to impermanence\, everything is possible” – Thich Nhat Hanh \nComposer/percussionist Susie Ibarra is joined by Tashi Dorji\, Phyllis Chen\, and area percussion groups in the premiere of the multi-ensemble version of “Four Meditations on Impermanence\,” a meditation on forests conceived and developed in PS21’s landscape. Inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote\, Ibarra presents four pieces focused on the sonic world of four elements – metal\, skin\, wood\, and water. Drawn by the cultural diversity of languages in nature\, she creates a percussive piece grounded in these natural elements—one that is impermanent\, yet also able to adapt and grow.  \nThe concert highlights a full day of community-wide\, multidisciplinary engagement with PS21’s varied natural topography. Part of Ibarra’s Rhythm in Nature residency\, the day includes a participatory performance along the Stony Kill\, a musical procession through the forest\, sound mapping\, and visual and movement projects\, all free and open to all. \nIn addition to the performance\, Ibarra will lead a Rhythm in Nature workshop\, where she will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques. DESCRIPTION:Susie Ibarra\, Jake Landau\, and the Rhythm In Nature Residency will hold a Community Listening Lab at PS21 on Saturday\, July 15\, from 9:30 AM-12 PM\, followed by a community discussion. \nParticipants will meet at PS21 at 9:30 AM on July 15 and will walk as a group to the Stony Kill where Ibarra\, Landau\, and the Rhythm In Nature Residency attendees will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques.  Rhythm in Nature participants will lead the community in making field recordings and listening to the surrounding environment\, with a focus on water and bird song\, using handheld Zoom Field Recorders\, stereo microphones\, directional microphones\, and hydrophones. \nCommunity members are encouraged to bring their own headphones (cabled\, not bluetooth). \nParticipants will walk along the Stony Kill and through the fields and forested areas of PS21’s grounds\, transitioning through a spectrum of natural acoustic ecosystems\, including water\, woodlands\, and meadows\, exploring a range of sites for bird song\, and returning to PS21’s open-air pavilion theater\, where Rhythm In Nature Residency attendees will lead a Q&A. \nThat evening\, don’t miss the World Premiere of Ibarra’s work “Four Meditations on Impermanence” at our pavilion theater.
