DESCRIPTION:“Thanks to impermanence\, everything is possible” – Thich Nhat Hanh \nComposer/percussionist Susie Ibarra is joined by Tashi Dorji\, Phyllis Chen\, and area percussion groups in the premiere of the multi-ensemble version of “Four Meditations on Impermanence\,” a meditation on forests conceived and developed in PS21’s landscape. Inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote\, Ibarra presents four pieces focused on the sonic world of four elements – metal\, skin\, wood\, and water. Drawn by the cultural diversity of languages in nature\, she creates a percussive piece grounded in these natural elements—one that is impermanent\, yet also able to adapt and grow.  \nThe concert highlights a full day of community-wide\, multidisciplinary engagement with PS21’s varied natural topography. Part of Ibarra’s Rhythm in Nature residency\, the day includes a participatory performance along the Stony Kill\, a musical procession through the forest\, sound mapping\, and visual and movement projects\, all free and open to all. \nIn addition to the performance\, Ibarra will lead a Rhythm in Nature workshop\, where she will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques. DESCRIPTION:Susie Ibarra\, Jake Landau\, and the Rhythm In Nature Residency will hold a Community Listening Lab at PS21 on Saturday\, July 15\, from 9:30 AM-12 PM\, followed by a community discussion. \nParticipants will meet at PS21 at 9:30 AM on July 15 and will walk as a group to the Stony Kill where Ibarra\, Landau\, and the Rhythm In Nature Residency attendees will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques.  Rhythm in Nature participants will lead the community in making field recordings and listening to the surrounding environment\, with a focus on water and bird song\, using handheld Zoom Field Recorders\, stereo microphones\, directional microphones\, and hydrophones. \nCommunity members are encouraged to bring their own headphones (cabled\, not bluetooth). \nParticipants will walk along the Stony Kill and through the fields and forested areas of PS21’s grounds\, transitioning through a spectrum of natural acoustic ecosystems\, including water\, woodlands\, and meadows\, exploring a range of sites for bird song\, and returning to PS21’s open-air pavilion theater\, where Rhythm In Nature Residency attendees will lead a Q&A. \nThat evening\, don’t miss the World Premiere of Ibarra’s work “Four Meditations on Impermanence” at our pavilion theater. DESCRIPTION:The Resistance Revival Chorus (RRC) is a collective of more than 60 women and non-binary singers who join together to breathe joy and song into the resistance\, and to uplift and center women’s voices. In celebration of Juneteenth\, the collective will be performing a free concert\, outdoors at Promenade Hill Park in Hudson. \nBefore the concert at 11 AM\, join the chorus for a singing workshop and panel discussion at Lightforms Art Center in Hudson\, NY. Sign up here for the workshop! \nChorus members are based in New York City and work as touring musicians\, film and television actors\, Broadway performers\, solo recording artists\, gospel singers\, political activists\, educators\, filmmakers\, artists\, and more\, representing a multitude of identities\, professions\, creative backgrounds\, and activist causes. The chorus centers women and non-binary folks in music\, and address how historically marginalized women have been in the music industry. \n“When the movement is strong\, the music is strong” – Harry Belafonte \nFounded in 2017\, the Resistance Revival Chorus released their debut album This Joy on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Record label in 2020. They have performed original and traditional protest music on the streets at marches and rallies\, and on major stages and festivals including at The Grammys\, Carnegie Hall\, The Apollo\, Newport Folk Festival\, and Outside Lands.

Patricia Guerrero’s work combines modern and traditional elements of flamenco into a choreographic stream of consciousness that is both playful and contentious\, performative and private. Her dancing has been called “fast\, exciting\, and full of invention” by Dance Europe magazine. Guerrero will be joined by flamenco guitarist Guillermo Guillén and cantaor Ismael Fernández.
