SUMMARY:JERSEY BOYS at the Mac-Haydn Theatre
DESCRIPTION:One of the most highly-requested shows in Mac-Haydn history finally hits the stage! Winner of both the Tony and Oliver Award for Best Musical\, Jersey Boys is a story of rags to riches\, celebrating one of the most influential bands in American history. \nFrankie Valli and the Four Seasons weren’t always a household name. Jersey Boys takes us behind the music\, celebrating the highs\, lows and 40-year friendship of the iconic quartet—presented through spring\, summer\, fall\, and winter—and how the ragtag group from New Jersey rose to international stardom. \nGet ready for a night of sincerely honest storytelling backed by chart-topping\, Grammy-nominated songs including “Sherry\,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry\,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You\,” “Dawn\,” “My Eyes Adored You\,” and of course “Oh What a Night…” Due to popular demand\, we’re celebrating the Jersey Boys Mac-Haydn debut for three spectacular weeks!

SUMMARY:“Save The Last Dance For Me” by Alessandro Sciarroni (Italy)
DESCRIPTION:From Italian theatermaker Alessandro Sciarroni\, recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance at the 2019 Venice Biennale\, an inventive revival of the polka chinata\, a nearly lost Bolognese courtship dance from the last century. \nThe polka chinata (crouched polka) is a rarity in ballroom dancing: it was performed exclusively by pairs of men. It originated in Bologna around 1900 and had nearly disappeared when Giancarlo Stagni\, a professor and dance master\, rediscovered it in the 1990s and began teaching it to his dancers. Theater-maker and choreographer Alessandro Sciarroni\, whose work inhabits the tension between tradition and modernity\, found the dance\, its hypnotic nature\, and its near-extinction fascinating. \nIn addition to the performance at PS21\, dancers Giovanfrancesco Giannini and Gianmaria Borzillo will lead free workshops in polka chinata following the performance for dancers and non-dancers\, diving into the polka and invoking the spirit of the community to save the dance from the brink of extinction.

SUMMARY:World Premiere: "Four Meditations on Impermanence" by Susie Ibarra
DESCRIPTION:“Thanks to impermanence\, everything is possible” – Thich Nhat Hanh \nComposer/percussionist Susie Ibarra is joined by Tashi Dorji\, Phyllis Chen\, and area percussion groups in the premiere of the multi-ensemble version of “Four Meditations on Impermanence\,” a meditation on forests conceived and developed in PS21’s landscape. Inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote\, Ibarra presents four pieces focused on the sonic world of four elements – metal\, skin\, wood\, and water. Drawn by the cultural diversity of languages in nature\, she creates a percussive piece grounded in these natural elements—one that is impermanent\, yet also able to adapt and grow. \nThe concert highlights a full day of community-wide\, multidisciplinary engagement with PS21’s varied natural topography. Part of Ibarra’s Rhythm in Nature residency\, the day includes a participatory performance along the Stony Kill\, a musical procession through the forest\, sound mapping\, and visual and movement projects\, all free and open to all. \nIn addition to the performance\, Ibarra will lead a Rhythm in Nature workshop\, where she will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques.
