Camille A. Brown & Dancers Kick Off 2021 Programming at PS21

CHATHAM, NY — Camille A. Brown & Dancers begin a five-week residency Feb. 15 at PS21 — Performance Spaces for the 21st Century, 2980 Route 66.

Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Brown, her 12 dancers, two musicians, and a production/company manager and chef will be on PS21’s campus through March 22 where they will inhabit a COVID-Bubble, living in spacious guesthouses while developing “Queens,” a new solo work; reimagining “Matchstick,” inspired by the Great Migration; and engaging in creative play.

Artist/Designer Katie Stout Curates Objects on the ‘Fringe’ in This Shaker Museum Exhibition

Shaker Museum launched its latest exhibition Fringe Selects (through Feb. 28, 2021) in collaboration with artist/designer Katie Stout. Through a selection of Shaker material chosen by Stout from the Shaker Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition explores the breadth of Shaker objects by taking a closer look at the objects on the “fringe”—colorful, ornamental, and less well-known than the minimalist, iconic Shaker pieces. Also on view are two new chairs by Stout created as a response to her exploration of Shaker material culture. The exhibition is presented in Shaker Museum’s pop-up space located at 17 Main Street in downtown Chatham, NY, donated by Columbia County resident, Jack Shear, and near the future home of Shaker Museum’s permanent facility.

Shaker Museum Taps Selldorf Architects for New $15 Million Facility

Shaker Museum has selected Selldorf Architects to create its new permanent facility in downtown Chatham, New York, to exhibit its comprehensive collection of more than 18,000 pieces of Shaker material culture and accompanying archives. Like the objects themselves, the physical building will embody Shaker values of inclusion, innovation, and equality to create a museum that both tells the Shaker story and is responsive to the needs of the community in Chatham, Columbia County, and the surrounding Hudson Valley. It was also announced that Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects will collaborate on the project. The museum will retain and maintain the historic Shaker site in Mount Lebanon, New York.
