Brown’s Emporium prepares to close after 104 years

CHATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – For 104 years, a shoe business has been the sole of the Chatham community. In 1920, Brown’s Emporium opened its doors on a dream that would eventually become a legacy.

Judy Rundell bought the shoe business from the Brown family in 1990. Shortly after, she held a $5 shoe sale to sell the excess inventory.

Columbia County Fair runs August 30-September 4

PS21 2023 Season Preview

In June, PS21 launched its 2023 season with the 10th anniversary edition of The NEXT Festival of Emerging Artists. The season continues with more than fifty unique events, featuring a constellation of celebrated and emerging dancers and choreographers, musicians and singers, actors, directors, and international street artists.

Art Omi announces plans for a new campus that will realize pavilions and other small built structures

Art Omi the sculpture and architecture park in Ghent, New York stages works from more than 2,000 artists and architects, including Steven Holl and Peter Eisenman, across its sprawling 120 acres. Following a record capital project funding announcement from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) the sculpture park slash residency program slash arts education center has announced the development of a new nonprofit arts center called the Art Omi Pavilions that will be located in Chatham, New York—just a 10 minute car ride away from its existing campus.

Chatham theatre plans matinee series for families

The Crandell Theatre on January 28 will launch “Crandell Kid Flicks,” a new family-friendly Saturday matinee series of contemporary classic children’s films. The program will be offered from January through April on the fourth Saturday of each month at 1 p.m.

“The series aims to provide the youngest moviegoers with fun, safe, exciting, and positive opportunities to become engaged in the arts,” a spokesperson for the theatre said in a press release. “Our beautiful, historic, single-screen movie house is the backdrop for an afternoon of educational fun that puts each film into special focus for these budding film lovers.”

The Best of Columbia County™ is a Reader’s Choice Contest. The nomination period began March 1, 2022 and continued through March 31, 2022. The Best of Columbia County™ allowed county residents to make their voices heard in deciding the “best of the best” in a broad field of over 50 categories.

Round One (March 1, 2022-March 31, 2022) was the nomination period. The top three of each category moved on to Round Two (April 11, 2022-April 29, 2022).

Round Two of Voting on the Nominations consisted of the top three in each category from Round One. Winners were announced during a red carpet-style show, held June 2, 2022 and presented by the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce and Columbia-Greene Media.
